We were stopping over in Johor Bahru enroute to Singapore. After visiting my grandaunt's home, we were invited to Pekin restaurant, which is quite a famous eatery among the locals here.
Pekin restaurant is particularly famous for its fresh seafood ingredients, you name it- fishes, crabs, oysters, sea cucumber, and lots lots more!
We ordered steamed 'Flower' crab in rice wine, steamed red snapper, braised sea cucumber, 'Ching Lung Chai', and 'Siew Pak Choy'.
It was hard for me to say which dish tasted better, but being a meat and seafood lover, my decision of what taste best would tend to be biased towards the meat and seafood dishes, haha. The crab meat was really sweet and juicy, and I drank the rice wine gravy like how one would drink their soup, so it must really tell on how nice the gravy must have been! Another dish that I thoroughly enjoyed was the braised sea cucumber dish. The sea cucumber was cooked just right, not too hard nor too soft, and tasted absolutely delicious. As for the red snapper, it was not overcooked, and the meat was so fresh and yummy. The vegetable dishes i.e. the stir-fried 'Ching Lung Chai' and 'Siew Pak Choy' is really fresh and tasty too.
My first dining experience in Johor Bahru is such a good one! This restaurant is as good, if not better than many of the seafood restaurants in Klang Valley. With good service, a clean environment, and nice ambience, what more can one ask for. I have no qualms recommending this place to anyone for food. Bon Appetite!
